Checking webhook payloads

Webhook bodies are usually JSON, and the failures are usually small: a trailing comma, a missing quote, a number too large for JavaScript. A formatter that points at the exact position saves a lot of squinting.

Beyond syntax, the tool checks things that matter for reliable delivery: a stable event id so receivers can ignore duplicates, an event type to route on, and large numeric ids that should be sent as strings. Format or sort keys before comparing two payloads, then check the signature with the signature tool.

How to use it

  1. Paste your JSON into the box. Validation happens as you type.
  2. Choose Format, Minify or Sort keys, and the indentation you prefer.
  3. Read the checks under the editor and fix anything flagged.
  4. Copy the result.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data uploaded?
No. Parsing runs in your browser and the text never leaves your device.
Why does it say “Unexpected token”?
The text is not valid JSON at that point. Common causes are trailing commas, single quotes, unquoted keys and comments. The line and column point at the first problem.
What does “sort keys” do?
It orders object keys alphabetically at every level, which makes two payloads easy to compare. Array order is kept.
Does minifying change the signature?
Yes. Signatures cover exact bytes, so any re-formatting breaks verification. Always verify the raw body as received.
Is there a size limit?
The free tool handles up to 50 KB. Webhook bodies are usually far smaller.
